    About

Dave Arndt conceives and develops solutions to achieve superior results through innovative design, resource optimization, effective methodology, smart scheduling and adherence to budget.  His designs have won awards for innovation, and facilitated business initiatives and alliances.  He takes an engineered, methodical, quality-oriented approach to assure projects are developed to specification, for compliance, and delivered on time.  Dave is recognized for being a fine engineer, a creative developer, a personable leader, a visionary problem solver, and a strong communicator.

With decades of experience in software, Dave has been hands on in development for cloud, web, desktop, and mobile, delivering solutions for both commercial resale and "in-house" use.  He ran his own development outsourcing company for 20 years, providing services for companies such as Bayer Diagnostics, Bayer Healthcare, Siemens Medical Systems, Becton Dickinson, and others. He brought his design, development and management abilities to large companies like Thermo Fisher Scientific, Oracle, KPMG, UBS, Hess; midsize companies like IPreo, Inc., Crestron, and smaller startups such as Seno Medical Corporation. He has therefore been involved in development from many perspectives: From initial conception, to ramp-up, establishment of methodology, requirements gathering, design, architecture, resource management, and hands on development - from device drivers to middle tier, back end databases, to user interface design. His success in the medical device and healthcare fields means he truly understands the quality and methodology required for work that must stand up to audit and FDA market clearance. Having done this for his own small company means he also knows how to manage a quality development processes efficiently.

Dave now brings this wealth of experience to you through his private consulting business. His background across a broad array of domains and technology platforms equips him with a diverse and deep palette of knowledge to help make your projects successful.

Langan Engineering engaged me to take over design and implementation of a mobile application used by field engineers to capture geo-technical
boring logs in the field.  Traditionally, information gathered to analyze soil and rock composition was done by hand in the field with paper and pencil, often under bad weather conditions.  This information would then have to be transcribed into software systems for reporting:  An error prone, laborious
and expensive process. The application I helped them develop allowed engineers to quickly enter project, boring, sample and strata details by tapping
buttons on a on a tablet, which was transparently transmitted to a cloud based server.  Once there, boring information was automatically
transformed and submitted to back-end reporting systems.

Becton Dickinson contracted with me to conceptualize and design a new commercial consumer product for diabetes. I created a model that obtained internal approval, then designed and implemented the software to help BD open a new market channel with a singular software package that helped lead sales of their blood glucometers.  My team also helped BD achieve FDA clearance for market release.

Bayer Healthcare was adapting communications protocols across an extensive line of medical devices. I lead design and development of software that provided a modular & reusable communications stack including USB, RS-232, Bluetooth (ZigBee) and 802.11 wireless for all of their current and future devices. The framework was put to use in existing products, test labs and also facilitated new business alliances with other medical device companies.

Thermo Fisher Scientific was struggling with a legacy desktop product and needed a vision and road map for updating their antiquated platforms.  I assessed the technical situation, authored a White Paper to define a path forward for development, and obtained companywide sign off on the approach. I lead the effort to migrate legacy products to web and mobile solutions, including the design and implementation of a RESTful API for Thermo's Laboratory Information Management Systems for use by multiple client platforms, including web browsers, iOS, Android and Windows Mobile devices.

AADE needed to build a national repository to gather and analyze outcomes of diabetes education.  I won their business from a field of more than 100 applicants and went on to develop the solution for a data acquisition and database repository that captured and analyzed information from multiple input sources. The system implemented data acquisition tools for web, IVR (interactive voice recognition) and OMR (optical mark recognition) for paper based input.  This system won the coveted InfoWorld Top 100 Award for innovation in technology.

Wextech Corporation required high performance components to handle natural language search engine requests. I consulted with the client, quickly determined their needs and implemented a reusable solution that exceeded throughput requirements by more than double the original specification. The solution became an integral part of the clients product line.
